GREEN BUILDING
JG Development works to incorporate green building practices into its projects as an everyday practice.
“Green building” (or “green construction”) refers to design and construction that focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use, whether materials, energy, or water. Green building also incorporates better siding, design, construction, and removal of old materials. Green building helps to ensure that the construction has positive impact on human health and the environment.
So what does green building mean for JG clients? We consider the available alternatives and incorporate green ideas into every project-many of these are simple ideas, but they do make a difference.
Some examples of what JG can do for clients:
- Utilize screen porches as a sheltered outdoor space
- Locate patios, porches, decks on south side to create sunny outdoor space
- Save and reuse topsoil from sites, utilize methods to eliminate earth removal from site
- Provide a single stabilized construction entrance
- Recommend windows, ceiling fans, and bath fans that are energy star rated
- Install high efficiency furnaces and locate furnaces in central area of home to reduce footage of ducts
- Install high-efficiency direct vent fireplaces
- Utilize blown or sprayed-in wall insulation
- Use wood fiber/composite decking materials
- Use engineered products for beams and headers
- Recommend domestic hardwood trim, not exotic species
- Implement hydronic heating systems
- Use of hard surface floors such as wood, concrete and tile, and NOT vinyl flooring
- Use low VOC paints, and water-based finished on floors and woodwork
- Use hot water recirculating lines and pumps (and NOT electric hot water heating equipment)
